World Vision Africa donates technical tools to Morans in Maralal

Samburu, Kenya: The World Vision Organisation Africa donated several technical work tools and equipment to seven morans from the Maralal Vocational Training Centre. The donations were made earlier on Friday, December 8, 2023. 

The tools were distributed as an honour to the students who have recently concluded their six-month training programme at the institution. These seven former morans at the training centre were pursuing the course to sustain and change their economic livelihoods.

Reportedly, The donations were made on Friday during a handover ceremony organised by the Samburu County government. 

The handover exercise was performed with the witness of several delegations from the Government of Samburu, Kenya and the Maralal Vocational Training Centre Management team.

During the event, each student was also presented with a cheque worth Ksh 30,000 as seed capital to kickstart their motor vehicle mechanics, motorcycle repairs, and hair and beauty therapy ventures. 

The Samburu county’s chief officer for vocational training and skills development, Tyson Lemako, thanked World Vision for the support to the morans. He added that the training has transformed them and that they will impact a change in their communities. 

The Samburu county government supported the trainees through training and paying for their national examinations, while Worldvision paid for their tuition fees at the Maralal vocational training centre.

Apart from Vocational training in the mechanical field, the Maralal Centre of Vocational Training also teaches students basic computer software applications and processors.

Each topic consisted of several detailed packages, including Introduction to PC and its troubleshooting. 

The Packages are as follows:-

• Introduction to Computer
• Keyboarding
• Microsoft Windows/ Operating system
• Spreadsheet using MS Excel
• Database Management using MS Access
• Digital Presentation using MS PowerPoint
• Internet and email
• Introduction to graphics design using publisher
• Basic Computer and Maintainance
• Document formatting and printing skills
• PC Troubleshooting
