Kilifi, Kenya: Youth Dare Initiative (YDI) hosted the Kilifi Gender Artivism Festival on (Saturday). The event was hosted for local youth at Mtomondoni Pre School Main Hall Phase 2, Kilifi County.
The Festival was an initiative to encourage awareness about Gender-based Violence. It was a part of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence among the County Youth and aimed to unite and invest to end Violence against Women and Girls in society.
It was hosted in an effective partnership with several organisations and stakeholders, including:-

- Kilifi Department of Health and Sanitation Services
- Kilifi Youth Advisory Council

- Kilifi County gender department
- Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE)
- The Global Fund

- World Health Organization (WHO)
- Kilifi Dept of Water, Environment, Climate Change & Solid Waste Mgmt Dream Achievers Youth Organization Kenya
- Maisha Youth
- VSO Kenya
- Jijenge YOUTH initiative
- Kilifi Department of Youth Affairs and Sports
Further, The Kilifi Gender Artivism Festival took place with the following opportunities for Youth, including:
- cocktail of Art
- open dialogue
- panellist session and Fun Activities.
It was launched with a vision of changing society through creating Art. The Festival also aimed to craft creative Art into an integral advocacy tool.
During the Event, the Youth also attended some insightful and engaging sessions. These sessions were based on addressing the gender-based stereotypical challenges that women and girls often face.
The interactive panel sessions were launched in anticipation of these challenges and to shape their Youth’s opinions and thoughts towards the same.
Furthermore, the Kilifi Gender Artivism Festival prioritised the following pointers including:
- Sexual Reproductive Health and Right
- Education and Livelihood
- Peace and Democracy
- Youth Participation
The session involved the dissemination of information on matters GBV. These were through edutainment and open discussion to achieve the 16 Days of Activism objectives against GBV.
