Zambia: The Station Commander of Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Lusaka, Col Oggy Samatemba, has called for effective handling of aviation fuels. Col Samatemba was speaking during the official opening of the No. 04 in Aviation Fuel Handling Course at ZAF Lusaka AFB on 28 August 2023.
Col. Samatemba urged the course participants to remain focused and said that the course had been carefully tailored to equip personnel with the necessary skills and know how with regards to handling aviation fuels and dangerous goods.
Col Samatemba also mentioned that Air Force Command had allocated considerable resources towards the acquisition of petroleum products and as such those entrusted to safeguard these products need capacity in all spheres necessary to ensure that flight safety standards are met.
He further urged the participants to keep abreast with modern trends related to the discharge of their duties. He said reminded personnel that effective aviation fuel handling is critical to air operations.
Speaking at the same occasion, Director Petroleum Oils and Lubricates (POL), Col Dexter MASEKA said the role of Supply Services branch is to provide combat service support.
“Through shared knowledge & understanding on the importance of training we can attain correct and effective storage, handling, and disposal of aviation fuels,” Col Maseka said.
He also mentioned that fuel is the lifeline of any form of transportation, and management of such a commodity is of the utmost importance, especially in the military circles.
He said the course will run from 28 August 2023 to 08 September 2023 and will include both theory and practical modes of teaching.
