A Local farmer of Vilembuluka Village in Senior Chief Sikufele’s Chiefdom of Manyinga District died after being attacked by a Crocodile. The incident happened along the Manyinga River, claiming the life of a 32-year-old woman.
Northwestern Province Police Commanding Officer Dennis Moola confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Kasemuka Livumbami. Police force started their investigation after Jones Kaputula of Kashonta Village reported the accident
“Around 16 hours, Police in Manyinga received a report from Jones Kaputula of Kashonta Village also under Chief Sikufele’s Chiefdom, that his Cousin Kasemuka Livumbami had been attacked by a crocodile along the Manyinga river near Lubelenga Village and that upon being attacked by the Crocodile she disappeared along the river,” Commanding officer Moola said.
According to the Northwestern Province Commanding Officer, the deceased had returned from her farm together with her three-year-old daughter around 13:10 hours. Upon returning, Livumbami was having a bath along the Manyinga River when the crocodile pounced on her.
He further stated that her daughter who was offshore at the time managed to alert her relatives who were at a nearby village. She informed them that her mother had been attacked by a crocodile.
“This Woman was having a bath along the river after returning from her farm; that’s when the Reptile attacked her,” he said.
He added that when the deceased relatives rushed to the river, they could not find her body. The relatives then sought assistance, and the matter was reported to Manyinga Police Station.
Officers joined the search party, but to no avail until the body was found and retrieved several hours later, around 18:00 hours.
“At the time the body was found, it had deep and multiple cuts on the right thigh and on the right hand,” Moola informed.
Police Commanding Officer Moola further stated that the body was retrieved and taken to Loloma Mission Hospital, where the examination was conducted, and she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
He said the deceased body has since been deposited to Loloma Mission Hospital Mortuary, awaiting burial as there is no foul play suspected.
