The Zambia Defence Force has celebrated the 2025 edition of International Military Sports Council ( CISM) Games. The celebration is aimed at promoting sports activities and physical education between the Armed Forces serving as a means to foster world peace.
Arakan Barracks, Zambia Air Force Headquarters and Zambia National Service Chamba Valley were chosen as venues for the games. The participants also came from these services.
They enjoyed showing their skills in various sports events including volleyball, football, tug of war, Basketball The event was hosted on Wednesday, February 19 and attended by several officers from the army.
Zambia Army Headquarters Garrison Commander, Brigadier General (Dr) Golden Ng’andwe delivered a brief address at the event. He urged the uniformed personnel to embrace the power of sports in strengthening bonds.
Brig Gen (Dr) Golden Ng’andwe said sport has the power to also build bridges and celebrate diversity.
“This is a day that holds profound significance for Armed Forces across the globe.
The games were hosted to commemorate the anniversary of the creation of the International Military Sports Council (CISM). The organization has been a beacon of unity and excellence among military personnel.”
The Garrison Commander also urged the Officers and Soldiers to be follow the CISM values. The values include solidarity, friendship, respect, inclusion and equality.
“CISM has played a pivotal role in promoting these ideals, providing a platform for military athletes to showcase their talents, represent their countries and embody the values they hold dear,” he added.
The Army teams performed very well during the 2025 games. They won in basketball, volleyball and netball. Meanwhile the Air Force team won in football.
In volleyball, Zambia Army beat ZNS 2-1 before silencing the Sharp Arrows from ZAF by the same margin.
In football, Zambia Army beat ZNS by 3-0, but lost the second match against ZAF by 1-2.
On the female end, Army women’s team were crowned overall winners in tug of war. ZAF came in next in second position and ZNS in the third position.
On the male end, Army men’s team were the second overall winners and ZNS were the first position, and ZAF in third position.
