Zambia: Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Jacob Mwiimbu has called on members of the public to desist from the habit of destroying government infrastructure whenever they are aggrieved.

Home Affairs Minister Mwiimbu further said the government spends huge sums of money to make sure that infrastructure development, such as Hospitals and Police Stations, reaches everyone in all the districts of Zambia.

The Minister said destroying infrastructure has and will never be a solution to resolving disputes whenever they occur.

He said criminals take advantage whenever such uncalled for incidents occur to destroy and loot people’s property.

He said this during the official hand over of the Police Station constructed using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). The Minister also handed over a Landcruiser and a boat to the Police during the same function held in Kafue today.

Home Affairs Minister Mwiimbu, who is also a Member of Parliament for Monze Central, urged the Police Service to ensure that all cases reported to Police Stations were effectively investigated in quick time so that members of the public do not take the law into their own hands.

“Ensure that the cases that are reported to you are thoroughly investigated and perpetrators are taken to court; this will build confidence in communities,” Minister Mwiimbu emphasised.

The Minister also took a swipe at the Police Command and urged them to avoid mounting unnecessary roadblocks in the country.

He said in some instances, members of the public were made to pay money through the back door in most of the roadblocks mounted.
“Establish proper points where check points can be established and done in a proper way,” he said.
