Malawi and Zambia have reached an agreement with one another to tighten border security. The agreement will be along the common border in an effort to curb rampant crime in the two countries.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba has made the announcement on Monday. He claimed that the officers have been working hard to make sure the border areas are secure.
The Police Commanding Officer says the two countries have agreed to intensify security. This will help combat crime which the recent past has become a source of concern due to lack of proper security.
The border areas are beginning to become a constant source of concern for the authorities. This is because the areas can become major centers for flesh
Further, Mweemba made these remarks after he was part of a bilateral meeting between the security forces of the two nations. The meeting was held at Mwami border.
” As you may be aware, border security is critical to peace and national development. This is why the two sides met to discuss the way forward”, he disclosed.
He said more security officers have been deployed to the border areas to enhance security levels adding that the two countries have been working together for a long time in providing security for the two countries.
” We agreed to strengthen border security to curbe rampant crime in the two countries”, he said.
Annania Mbangwa, who works as Malawian officer in charge interpol superintendent warned cross border traders to be mindful of the law as they conduct their businesses.
Commisioner of Police Mbangwa says the law will not hesitate to visit business people that are dealing in illegal businesses.
He has also appreciated the governments of both Zambia and Malawi for acting swiftly to address security concerns on the border areas. The project aimed at enhancing a better relationship between the two countries and better safety for the border areas on both sides.
The bilateral meeting was also attended by members from the Zambia Revenue Authority and the Drug Enforcement Commission.
