The Zambia Pool Union ( ZPU ) is appealing to the corporate world, government and individuals for financial support ahead of the international pool championship scheduled for Qinhuangdao, China.

Zambia: The Zambia Pool Union ( ZPU ) is appealing to the corporate world, government and individuals for financial support ahead of the international pool championship scheduled for Qinhuangdao, China.

According to ZPU Media Director Kirby Musonda, his association needs financial support to send a six-man team to the championship in Chinese City from March 15th to April 3rd, 2024.

As per media reports and the statement of Media Director Musonda said that the six-member Zambian team comprises three ladies and three men, namely, Chabota Hamoonga, Chipoka Mutanda and Juliet Nyika, while the male team includes Chileshe Kangwa, Kirlvin Kangwa and himself.

“The players mentioned earlier have received invitation letters from the host, but we are busy trying to source sponsorship for our fight tickets so that we can get our visa before February 17th 2024,” he said.

He explained that the deadline for submitting flight ticket details is February 18th 2024 to the organisers, which he said is considered as confirmation and valid registration.

He further explained that February 17th is the deadline for the submission of flight ticket details to the host.

In this fortnight, long championship winners will take home cash prizes in the range of US$ 1527 400, broken down as follows: US $ 700,000 for the winner, while the second and third-placed winners will take home US$ 210,000 and US$ $84,000, respectively.

Other consolation prizes ranging between US $ 42,000 and US $ 1400 will be awarded to participants in fourth through 12th place in the tournament.

The current holder of the title is a Chinese Zheng Yubo, who won the 11th edition of Joy Heyball Masters grand finals and took home US $ 740,000. The runner-up was a student, Yubo Tang Chunxio.

The 11th edition attracted some of the biggest names in the Cue sport, including Gareth Potts, Jason Theron and women’s number one Kelly Fisher.

Zimbabwe, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and South Africa, which participated in the 11th edition, are also expected to participate in this year’s Cue championship.
