Zambia: ZESCO Limited has revised its load shedding schedule in residential areas in light of the power availability crisis. The aim of the initiative is to make sure that there is to ensure a more equitable distribution of power outages.

The people across the country have come forward to express their disappointment over the situation as their lives and livelihoods are being severely impacted. The people of the country have urged the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation Limited to find another way to deal with this crisis.

The people of Zambia have been struggling with the issue of power supply shortage and loadshedding. The people who were running small scale businesses were very severely affected by the power crisis.

With the new adjiustments in the in the loadshedding exercise, the people are hoping for some relief from the company. Spokesperson Matongo Maumbi however says the daily eight hours load shedding will be maintained.

He announced that this is being done in response to diminished national electricity generation capacity.  Maumbi says some localities will maintain their existing load shedding times, while others will see adjustments.

The ZESCO Spokesperson notes that the firm acknowledges that certain areas have experienced extended power outages beyond the scheduled times. He attributes them to a combination of challenges among them vandalism, along with a significant increase in demand on the national grid due to unexpectedly high consumer consumption.

Maumbi says customers can contribute significantly by adopting simple yet effective measures such as switching to LED lighting, using energy-efficient appliances, and adopting energy-efficient ways of heating or cooking.

Meanwhile, the people of Zambia have taken to their respective social medias to share their views on the situation. Some people have also offered advise on how the company can affectively address the situation.

“The situation is dire and needs innovation if this energy crisis is to be solved.” Said one social media user. “The problem Zesco is expecting different results while using the same mindset over and over.”

ZESCO was supposed to have plan B if really they understood what climate change is and it’s impact. But instead they continued believing in hydro generated electricity instead of looking for alternative source of energy Incase not having enough rains.
