Zimbabwe: The ZIFA Normalisation Committee has revealed that it will appoint a local coach to head the Warriors team.

Considering the same, the Chairman of the Normalisation Committee – Lincoln Mutasa, stated that they have decided to engage a local coach.

“We have decided to engage a local coach and we will come up with a decision in the next two weeks,” said Chairman Mutasa.

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee earlier appointed High-landers gaffer Baltemar Brito as the new Warriors coach.

As per the contract, the 71-year-old Portuguese mentor trained the country’s senior men’s national soccer team till December 2023.

Zimbabwe Football Association has declared the search for the next Warriors coach in August 2023. They advertised the posts for the technical personnel to lead the country’s football teams back to the international stage following the recent lifting of the FIFA suspension.

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee was installed by FIFA – Federation Internationale de Football Association (in English, it means International Federation of Association Football) in July 2023. They appointed a chairman, Lincoln Mutasa, for the committee to officially begin the search.

Mutasa said that the committee was distributing job adverts for the posts of the Mighty Warriors as well as the Warriors and National age-group team coaches.

The Chairman stated, “We will have the adverts. We are advertising for all the national team posts for the Under-17, Under-20, Under-23 and to the senior teams.”

“We will have the adverts maybe tomorrow (today) or the following day. We are advertising for all the national team posts from the Under-17, Under-20, Under-23 up to the senior teams,” he said.

Since then, the appointment of the Warriors coach, in particular, has been a hot topic among the local football enthusiasts following the FIFA World Cup.

Following this, the Normalisation Committee had given assurance that the Warriors coach would be unveiled before the start of the qualifiers that were held in November.

FC Platinum gaffer Norman Mapeza was the last coach to take charge of the national team when he guided the Warriors to a first-round exit at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon in Jan 2022. Just a month after the tournament, Zimbabwe was suspended by FIFA.
