Zimbabwe: Abusive boyfriend stabs girl to death, family seek justice

Zimbabwe: In Marondera in the east province of Zimbabwe, a woman identified as Sharon was killed by her abusive boyfriend. The incident happened the couple engaged in an altercation. After the disagreement, the alleged boyfriend stabbed her in the back of the head.

She is survived by three children who are still under the age of 10. The police officers investigating the incident interviewed the victim’s sister who expressed her heartbreak at the death.

In her statement, she emphasised that women should stand together in fighting against gender violence. She revealed that some of the social media comments have left her hurt and broken as they are supporting the perpetrators.

Sharon was killed in a way which was described as inhuman. She was found with deep wounds from behind the head where the knife was left. She also suffered one deep injury on the eye.

Before the incident, Sharon complained about her boyfriend claiming that he was abusive. According to the victim he did not allow her to have freedom, not even to dance with the family.

On the day of the incident, the neighbours heard Sharon screaming, and after a while, the boyfriend went out. The neighbours tried to call her, but there was no answer. Thus, they took the initiative to go and notify Sharon’s mother of the incident.

Sharon’s mother registered the case to the police, and when the police came and broke the door, they found Sharon’s body lying in a pool of blood. The police and forensics collected the evidence for further investigations, and the body was carried to the mortuary.

The alleged boyfriend had a history of abusing Sharon on social media. The boyfriend also used to post inappropriate messages to the family. The expressed their gratitude to the police for keeping them updated on the case. Meanwhile, the suspect is still on the run.

The family claimed in a video that Sharon was put in a mortuary with her head facing down instead of facing up. This was done due to the weapon on the back. Her family asserted that they want her not to rest in peace but to fight for justice with that knife on her back. And they are calling for unity among the Zimbabwean ladies.
