Zimbabwe: Cousin rapes, murders minor in Pretoria

The Police Force has received the reports of murder in a Cullinan, Pretoria. The victim has been identified as Owami Visagie.

Zimbabwe: The Police Force has received the reports of murder in Cullinan, Pretoria. The victim has been identified as Owami Visagie aged 17. According to the reports which were received from the local police authorities, she was murdered allegedly by her cousin.

The officials have also identified the suspect of the murder case as a 30 year old resident of the same area. The murder incident happened in Cullinan, Pretoria, on 25 March 2024.

According to the police force, the victim had not returned to her home since the night before the day of the murder. The suspect’s family had been worried about her safety, so they reached out to the police for assistance.

The victim, Owami’s mother, opened a missing report to the police after her daughter did not return home the night before, 24 March. After some time, the members of the victim’s family found out that Owami was last seen with her cousin.

Afterwards, they went to his house to check with him. The mother of the victim reached the house and entered the cousin’s room.

She found her daughter’s lifeless body lying on the floor naked, gagged, and with her hands tied behind her back. Owami was allegedly raped and strangled to death.

The cousin fled the scene but handed himself over to the police on the same day. The family confirmed that the suspect was a very close family member and that they would spend a lot of time together.

Owami was a grade 11 pupil from Chipa-Tabane Secondary School in Cullinan, outside Pretoria. The people of the community have expressed their sincere condolences on the death of the youngster.

The family is devastated by the loss and has asked the police authorities to make sure that the suspect gets justice served to him. Meanwhile, the people who knew the deceased extended their prayers for her soul to rest in peace.
