Zimbabwe: The Nation celebrates the victory of Donata Katai as she secures the medal at the African Games. The Athlete secures the second medal for the country. Donata Katai won the bronze medal in the women’s 100m Backstroke event in swimming.
It was the second medal she won for the country after Denilson Cyprianos finished second in the Men’s 100m Backstroke final to win silver, which he added to the gold medal he scooped on Sunday in the Men’s 200m Backstroke.
Zimbabwe has sent a strong team of swimmers in the ongoing African Games in Accra, Ghana and performed impressively on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
Reportedly, the Zimbabwe swimming team has bagged three medals and has placed themselves as one of the best in the competition.
The women’s swimming relay team comprises Donata Katai, Liam Davis, Vhenekai Dhemba and Paige Van Der Weisthuizen who won bronze in the 4x100m Women’s freestyle relay.
As per the sources, the Zimbabwe swimming team has won four medals, which have all been won by the swimming team, including one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
Considering the last edition of the African Games, held in Morocco, Team Zimbabwe returned home with only four medals from the twelve sporting disciplines that it had sent.
According to the recorded clock time, Donata Katai completed her win in 03.77 seconds. On the other hand, Denilson Cyprianos finished his race in 56.32 seconds.
Moreover, triathlon coach Pamela Fulton is preparing the swimming team for the upcoming African Games event on Friday, which will be held in Ghana.
The triathlon team will consist of Andie Kuipers, Lorna Doorman, Rohnan Nicholson, and Callum Smith. After arriving in Ghana, the team will prepare for the hot weather conditions and adjust to the schedule.
The triathlon coach, Fulton, is confident that the team can perform well, as it has the level of experience that the team needs to compete in the tournament.
Considering the upcoming African Games, Fulton stated that they have tested all the bikes and all of them are good. The coach informed them that Rohnan had developed an ear infection for which they were at the medical tent last night and tried to get it treated.
Fulton added, “We have got to get back again today to find out what’s wrong with the ear, hopefully it’s nothing serious.”
The coach talked about Lorna and said, “She is relatively new to the sport. She is used to competitive in swimming race but has not tried racing in competitive triathlon.”
“She has got that mind set and she is older that the rest of the team, so I do not doubt that she will perform well,” said Fulton.
