South Africa: The reaction Unit South Africa has arrested Fourteen suspects for their involvement in various criminal activities within the community. These suspects were most active in the Central Business District of Verulam – KZN.
The suspects were arrested during a joint operation between the South African Police Services (SAPS) & Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA). The law enforcement authorities came together for an operation that was planned in the morning hours of Friday.
The aim of the joint operation is to make sure that the criminal elements of the community can be dealt with smoothly. The Verulam SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, Sector Managers & Reaction Officers came together for the operation.
During the operation, the teams in question targeted the hideouts along the greenbelt & the railway line surrounding the Central Business District. During the operation, the teams kept observation on the hideouts.
Further, they also surrounded the area blocking off all entry & exits. The Fourteen suspects who were were arrested were found in possession of dangerous weapons.
They were also charhed with the possession of drugs, robberies & attempted murder (stabbings). One of the suspects was identified as a Pakistani National from Gujarat district in the state of Punjab.
The other thirteen suspects are the residents of the South African Nationals. A car guard was also arrested by the reaction unit officers. Further, the member of the reaction unit have confirmed that they will continue to conduct such exercises in the future.
The Verulam region of the KwaZulu Natal Province has been severely affected by the increasing numbers of crime. The officials of the Reaction Unit and the the South Africa Police Service have been working on bringing that number down.
They recently executed a successful law enforcement high visibility patrols along R102 between Verulam and Canelands. They arrested 11 suspects for spreading insecurity along the highway and charged them for vehicle hijacking, murder and related offenses.
The people of KwaZulu natal have appreciated the organizations for teaming up with one another to combat crime in the region.
