Zambia: Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ) has renewed over 1, 500 practicing licenses for nurses and midwives. The renewal process was done for the 2025 registration of the nurses and midwives of the country.
The health ministry has shared that the registration process was crucial for managing the nurse and midwives population. The managing the training and practices of the nurses and midwives is a crucial part of managing the healthcare sector of Zambia
Public Relations Officer, Mainess Banda, explains that the council conducts registration annually. The registration tracks the various nurses who are responsible for providing quality services to the people in the community.

Banda said the issuance of licenses and registration at this year’s international trade fair kick-started the 2025 process. As such, the members of the health fraternity call on other nurses and midwives to register through the Nursing and Midwifery Council offices.
Further, the Council South West Regional Manager, Steward Kambenja, said his office has a responsibility to ensure that nurses and midwives providing quality services to the people are given licenses.
Kambenja added that the council is also there to regulate nurses who are not properly executing their duties. The nurses who have ben hampering the quality of the healthcare are sent back for proper training.
He said licenses are accorded to employed nurses according to their respective qualifications. Accordingly, the council is always available to encourage the nurses and midwives to advance in their education.
Kambenja explained that Nurses who are yet to be deployed can also register and get a practicing license at an affordable price.
Muyau Hamoonga, a registered nurse, said a practicing license demonstrates one’s competence in working as a nurse.
Hamoonga has since called on the other nurses to ensure they register and renew their practicing licenses with the council.
