Zambia (Kabompo): Kabompo constituency Member of Parliament Ambrose Lufuma has flagged off the distribution of 1,554 desks to all the schools of Kabompo constituency.

Ambrose Lufuma, who is also the Defence minister, says the government is committed to the provision of quality education as education remains the number one equaliser anywhere in society.

He said this in Kabompo today when he officially flagged off the distribution exercise for school desks constructed from the constituency development fund (CDF).

“The government is committed to ensuring that no child seats on the floor by the end of 2024, and this is being achieved through the utilisation of CDF to have the desks made by local companies,” said Ambrose Lufuma.

Furthermore, the lawmakers said the government wants to ensure quality education through the recruitment of teachers and the provision of adequate desks to all schools.

And speaking at the same event, district education board secretary, Josephine Kahanji said no learner in the district will sit on the floor as all the 99 schools in the area will be catered for through CDF.

“We have ensured that no child in our district will sit on the floor as we have been ranked second from Kalumbila according to the provincial statistics,” Kahanji said.

She further stated that most desks have already been distributed to the respective schools.

Meanwhile, speaking at the same event, Kabompo boarding secondary school Headteacher Isaac Lijimu said that the fruits of CDF are tangible frameworks of action, as this is not being given to people by word of mouth.

Lijimu said the desks produced show that CDF money has been utilised and translated into tangible fruits of action.

“Minister, the CDF-produced desks are a sign of tangible action by your government, and we are happy to be part of it as seen from the number of desks already produced …CDF is working, ” Lijimu said.
