Zambia: The police force of Choma district have arrested a driver at the Provincial Water Works Office for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl. The officials have shared that the suspect assaulted the victim for four hours continuously.
Officials have identified the suspect as Nkandu Banda. The 41-year-old is a resident of the Kachacha Compound in Choma district. The officials have also revealed that the suspect allegedly committed the crime on January 27, 2024.
The Provincial Water Works driver took the victim in his car before the incident and raped her from 21:00 hours to 01:00 hours the next day. Notably, the police officers revealed that the suspect committed the crime in his vehicle along Masuku Road after Jimel School junction.
The incident was reported to the Police by the neighbour of the victim on January 30, 2024.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka provided the details of the incident in a media statement. According to the information made public by Commissioner Daka, ‘On the material night, the victim was selling beer at a Shebeen at her residence where she is being kept.”
While she was selling the alcohol, she was beaten by her customer. The reason for this assault remains unknown. Meanwhile, this is when the suspect approached her to offer her to have the matter reported to the Police.
He says that under the pretext of going to the Police, the suspect drove his vehicle with the victim therein towards the Masuku Area and parked. Afterwards, the suspect forced the girl to have sexual intercourse with him.
Daka states that after the ordeal, the victim was dropped back at her place, later complaining of a painful vagina.
The victim may have reported the incident to her family and neighbours, after which the neighbour reported the incident. The people of the country have been sharing their disappointment over the incident. The social media users acknowledged that the incident was sad.
