Durban: There was great interest in the games for the elderly that was held in Durban. In these games, all the elderly people of the Zulu-Natal Municipality regions come together to compete in different sports, including running, football and others.
At the same time, the Mzinyathi district was not left because we had left with my grandparents, who were from their municipalities which are Nquthu, Endumeni, Umsinga, and Mvoti.
These seniors left on Wednesday, 12 October 2022 and were bid farewell in a way that encouraged them to win and be confident wherever they went.
The council of Mzinyathi did so well in the Golden Games competition that it was number 5 in the category of medals it received from the 11 municipalities that had participated. They received three silver and two bronze medals.
Then some of the seniors were chosen to represent the Province of KwaZulu-Natal in the national Golden Games that will be held in the month of November 2022 in Cape Town. It was a great joy to hear the news that they would be going to the Western Cape province, and others promised that they would be determined in the future to be selected for the national games.
The Mayor of Mzinyathi District, Ald PMS Ngubane, was pleased to see it happen when the elderly of the District were determined to exercise in preparation for the games.
The Mayor said that he is pleased with the presence of these games for adults because it helps a lot to fight diseases in adults. He will continue to establish this programme for the elderly so that they also have the opportunity to have a breath of fresh air and drive away the squalor of the grandchildren since, after all, they will also suffer.
He then thanked everyone who was able to succeed and those who did not succeed and said that he also won because just coming to play meant victory.
He then thanked those who were chosen to represent us in Cape Town and strongly encouraged all grandmothers to make it a habit of their lives to exercise because the games are approaching, so that it will be easier when the time for the games comes.
