The Theme of the ceremony was Collective Elevation- Resilience for Africa’s future, which speaks to the active recollection and coming together as an African people and the power that lies in our collective efforts to contribute to a future that we could be proud of our children to inherit.

KWANZAA is a Pan-African celebration of the Black Family from 26 December to 1 January. It was mainly founded by Dr Maulana Karenga in 1966. The event is centred around seven principles (Nguzo Saba) of African Centred practice. Known in South Africa as Umkhosi, Incwala, Dikgafela, Loma and Tehvuola.

This will be the 21st year that Africans are brought together across divisions of language, nationality, religion and political affiliation. KWANZAA’s uniqueness lies in its triple objective: To celebrate Africa, to create a platform for constructive dialogue and to inspire practical work for transformation.
