South Africa: A sixty five year old woman was attacked, assaulted and raped in Bergman Square in Bloemfontein over the previous weekend. At the time of the assault, the 65 yar old victim was at home with her grandson who was also attacked by the suspects.
The investigating officials stated that The victim was ambushed by three suspects who were armed with knives. The grandson, who is only 15 years old, was also stabbed on his arm and head and has sustained some injuries.
The officials have maintained that the injuries of the 15 year old are not life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery. On the other hand, one of the tormentors raped the 65 year old grandmother once inside the house and once outside.
The suspect left the 65-year-old victim with a gashing wound.
The Free State police force has informed Premier Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae about the incident. She has expressed deep sorrow and disappointment over the incident. She claimed that they will take strict actions on the criminals for their actions.
“We will not surrender our province to criminals. I want to make that very clear.” Said the Premier of Free State. She commented on the widespread criminal offenses being reported in this regard.
Premier Letsoha-Mathae said The law-abiding people of our province should not have to live in fear of thugs whose aim is to terrorise our communities. The governing party of Free State listed crime prevention as one of our priorities.
The Premier asserted that she has every intention of ensuring that, that is achieved.
During a recent march against Gender Based Violence, Premier of Free State Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae pledged to work hard to rid our communities of this plague.
Incidents such as the recent one against the elderly woman will not deter us. We won’t tire. In fact, such incidents only serve to fuel our resolve to bring an end to this pandemic.
The premier has spoken to MEC Jabu Mbalula, responsible for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. Accordingly, the best detectives of Free state Bloemfontein, who are highly experienced in such matters, have been assigned to the case.
