Kafue, Zambia: Jack Kapenda is believed to have been attacked while fetching water in the Kafue River opposite China Harvest Farm in the Garneton area.
Police have managed to retrieve the head, chest part and legs of the victim. Copperbelt Province commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident happened on Wednesday, October 18th, around 13:00 hours.
“On October 19th, police visited the scene and observed that the deceased was fetching water in the Kafue River at a point where they normally do, and he was caught by a crocodile. Parts of the body like the head, chest and legs were retrieved from the water with the help of local people at around 09:00 hours, while other body parts are missing,” he said.
He said his father, Charles Kapenda, identified the body of the victim.
“The family of the deceased stays in Kamatipa township, but they do their farming across the Kafue River, and that is where the deceased was normally found,” he said.
In May, a 12-year-old boy also died after being attacked by a crocodile at Pulau Sumangat Payau, Sandakan, in Sabah.
The police sent the fire and Rescue team in the hope that they might save the child, but unfortunately, he died.
“The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) found the victim’s remains at 10.38 am, about 2km from the reported location of the incident.
“The remains were later handed over to the police,” he said.
Reports indicated that Crocodile sightings are not a new thing around the beaches of Sabah. Last year, the Sabah Wildlife Department received almost 30 reports of crocodile sightings, with at least six in Kota Kinabalu.
Last Year, in December, a crocodile attacked a man and his one-year-old toddler while on a sampan in Lahad Datu, killing the child and leaving the man with severe injuries.
