KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, Verulam: A 30 year old man was stabbed during a robbery in the Verulam CBD – KZN earlier yesterday (Monday).
The victim’s employer contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 10:34, requesting medical assistance for the man. On arrival, it was established that the victim was walking on Wick Street when three (3) suspects attacked him.
The victim attempted to retaliate but was stabbed in the arm by one of the robbers, who fled with his cell phone. The injured male proceeded to his place of employment and advised his colleagues of the incident. They then contacted the RUSA Operations Center for assistance.
The victim was treated for his injury but declined further medical intervention.
Residents of the area are in shock by this incident and saying that the culprits were addicted to drugs, and that will be the reason that Verlan will vanish slowly because youth are more into drugs nowadays.
“It’s the drug addicts that are slowly conquering Verulan town. I wish the community and business people could come together and chase them away like in Port Shepstone. The town is clean. I think they hored or established a Forum. Now people are able to shop freely,” said a Facebook user.
“Well, the community need to stand together; we need RUSA, all the other security companies, and the South Africa Police Service on foot now to clean up Verulam,” said another user.
One of the users showed her sadness and suggested to the community that we need to take the law into our own hands for the community’s safety. Because of this, I am scared to walk the streets.
“Sad to say we need to talk the law in our hands for our safety now..we must be scared to walk the streets .not enough’ these online scammers..now we can’t walk to, said Leeanne Moodley.
