Cape Town, South Africa: The member of the Mayoral Committee – Alderman James Vos, released a statement regarding Cape Town being Africa’s leading Green Economy Transformation and attracting Sustainable Investments.
Minister James Vos said that recent years witnessed an alarming surge in climate-related catastrophes that ranged from devastating floods, droughts and unprecedented heatwaves to intensifying storms.
He mentioned that these events have trusted the City of Cape Town at a pivotal juncture that compelled the officials to reassess their strategies for promoting investments and trade.
“In the face of climate change, adaptation and resilience are no longer mere options but pressing necessities,” he added to his statement.
Cape Town is committed to sustainability and in the present era where environmental sustainability takes centre stage, the city emerges out to be a resolute and eco-conscious region. The city firmly solidifying its position as Africa’s premier green economy hub.
The city is dedicated to resilience and a flourishing landscape for green investments. It has positioned itself as a formidable global destination for conscious businesses.
The initiatives taken by Cape Town towards green economy span a diverse spectrum of sectors, encompassing circular economy practices, green water technologies, emerging agro-industries, electric vehicles and energy security.
Notably, the steps taken to fortify the city’s environmental credentials and also provide significant economic opportunities. Cape Town fosters direct and indirect support to green economy industries and catalyses the inflow of green investments. Whereas the existing businesses embrace sustainable practices.

Alderman James Vos also mentioned that under his guidance the CEO of Greencape was appointed as the chairperson of the International Cleantech Network (ICN), which has represented over 16,000 businesses across four continents.
He said that it is commendable that Cape Town is poised as South Africa’s hub for black soldier fly (BSF) farming and an emerging centre for the manufacturing of the battery. BSF farming is gaining global recognition as an organic waste management solution by transforming waste into animal feed and fertilizers.
Moreover, the investments in battery manufacturing promise to contribute to energy storage solutions, enhancing energy security.
