Zambia: The administration of the Chasefu District has announced plans to construct two modern Early Childhood Education (ECE) centres. The people of the district have appreciated the government for taking the initiative.
The construction of the ECEs will ensure that the children of the district get appropriate developmental support. The project is being supported through the funds received from the World Bank.
District Education Board Secretary Benny Ngoma has announced the details of the development. He announced that the World Bank-funded projects will be constructed at Thunkhu and Phikamalaza Primary Schools.
The projects will be implemented at a cost of 2.5 Million Kwacha each, using a labour-based approach. According to Dr Ngoma, the ECE modern facilities are being implemented through the Zambia Education Enhancement Project (ZEEP).
Both the primary school projects will have a full package for the benefit of the students and teachers. The facilities will include a water reticulation system, an office and a modern kitchen, among others.
Further, the District Education Board Secretary added that the project implementation committees consist of technocrats and several community members. They have already been formed to spearhead the implementation process.
Dr Ngoma provided an update regarding the development of the project regarding how far the project has progressed.
He announced that they had started the process to recruit technical supervisors for the ECEs. These supervisors will, in turn, engage artisans who are going to do the construction work.
The process for the recruitment will be concluded next week. Dr Ngoma said Early Childhood Education was important as it is a foundation of education for learners.
He, however, disclosed that the modern centres will not only change the face of the schools and help learners but also provide staff and learners, as well as the surrounding communities, with safe, clean water.
Currently, Chasefu District has a total of 102 ECE centres dotted around the district. The people of the district are happy with the development, signalling a better future for the children.
