Botswana: Self Help Housing Agency division (SHHA) orientated 10 SHHA beneficiaries from Shashemooke, Serule, Gojwane and Tonota. The initiative was hosted in conjunction with Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) on Friday.
The authorities of the various Town and District councils were happy about the provision of housing to the beneficiaries. The initiative will help many families become homeowners for the first time.
When welcoming the beneficiaries, Chief Social and Community Development Officer Uyapo Mafunye stated the importance of repaying the SHHA loan. He explained that repaying the loan is very crucial as it sustains the continuity of the programme.
The programme was conceived with the motive of providing affordable and accessible ways of buying homes. The fund is being distributed among their first batch of beneficiary families.
The organization and authorities hope that the initiative will encourage several other families to take advantage of the assistance.
Agt Chief Physical Planning, Housing & Estate Management Officer, Benjamin Bogopa emphasized on the importance of good working relations between beneficiaries, Council SHHA Office and BHC.
He further mentioned that the project is funded to the tune of P90,000.00, which is expected to be fully paid back in 20 years. Bogopa went on to explain that repaying the loan allows the Council to fund other beneficiaries.
The BHC Quality Assurance Officer, Onalenna Leka Lake said the expected completion period of the house construction is three to four months. He disclosed that every stage of construction is monitored by both BHC and Council Inspectors.
The people of the country have congratulated the beneficiaries for the opportunity that they have been given. The authorities have further clarified that the 90 thousand Pula house is a brand-new turnkey house. The keys and documents of the property will be given to the beneficiary by the organization.
Meanwhile, if a beneficiary is looking to improve their pre-existing house, the amount of loan is reduced by 30 thousand pula.
