Malawi: The Malawi Assemblies of God University (MAGU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Independent Schools Association of Malawi (ISAMA). The signing of the MoU took place on Wednesday, February 14.
The MoU dictates that the University will train teachers under ISAMA. The officials of the two organizations met at the signing ceremony and pledged cooperation among themselves.
Notably, the Ministry of Education in the country has certain requirements which the aspiring and present teachers employed in the various educational institutions of the country must comply with.
The agreement will see ISAMA send member teachers to MAGU for them to acquire the necessary qualifications. The cooperation will allow the teachers of the country to attain the needed knowledge, qualifications and skills.
Several stakeholders from both organizations were present at the important occasion. Meanwhile, The Malawi Assemblies of God University (MAGU) Vice Chancellor, Dr Enson Lwesya delivered brief remarks.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr Lwesya pledged his support to the cause. He said that MAGU is ready to provide the right education required by the MoE to the entire ISAMA network.
“First and foremost, we want to provide University Certificate of Education (UCE), Degrees in Education and Early Childhood Development which are demanded by the regulator authorities in Malawi,” said Lwesya.
The Independent Schools Association of Malawi stakeholders were happy with the support.
ISAMA chairperson Rev. Wycliff Chimwendo acknowledged that the association has teachers with other qualifications but not professionally trained. The association is also making strides to secure education loans from banks and other money institutions for its members.
The memorandum of understanding will also see MAGU offering ISAMA members a 50% tuition fee discount. The step is being taken to make it more affordable and accessible to all ISAMA members.
Present at the signing ceremony, alongside the Vice Chancellor, were, The University Registrar, ISAMA committee and the entire MAGU Open Distance Learning (ODeL) team. This agreement further solidifies MAGU as one of the leading tertiary education institutions in the country
