South Africa: KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka has handed over the road constriction project of the main road P429 to the constractors. The official handover ceremony for the project was hosted on Tuesday. The event was hosted at the Ward 12, KwaDukuza Local Municipality.
The community’s residents have been asking for the rehabilitation of this main road for several months, the road connects several wards of the community and different areas of KwaZulu with each other.
With the rehabilitation of the main road P429, the movement of goods and people from one place to another will be easier. Travel and business opportunities will also rise markedly in the community after the project is completed.
The main road P429 runs through two municipal Wards (12 and sections of Wards 29 and 11). Further, the main road moves east towards the coast. While connecting these areas, the road also crosses the N2 national road near the Umvoti Toll Plaza.
The construction project for the road is expected to cost R158 million. The KwaZulu Natal Department of Transport shared glimpses of the project handover ceremony. The people of the community are delighted to note that the rehabilitation of the main road project has started.
The Department of Transport is also happy to serve the various communities of KwaDukuza. The department claimed that the project would contribute to the social and economic upliftment of the KwaDukuza area.
The rehabilitation project will help create job opportunities for the KwaDukuza’s local population, relieving pressure from the administration.
According to the transport department, the rehabilitation project is  structured to allow the local people to participate. The department gave employment opportunity to the previously disadvantaged individuals and contractors.
The department has made sure that the relevant business Enterprises work without compromising quality standards and skills.
