Mauritius: The newly appointed High Commissioner of the Republic of Tanzania to Mauritius, Simon Nyakoro Sirro met Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. The ambassador paid a courtesy call to the Prime Minister on Wednesday at the New Treasury Building, in Port Louis.
The government of Mauritius has shared some images from the event on the official social media accounts and pages. Before the meeting with Prime Minister of Mauritius, The ambassador met the President of Mauritius.
He presented his credentials to the President Prithvirajsing Roopun. The President also welcomed him warmly into his new duties and responsibilities as thee ambassador.
Thee government has shared a statement detailing all the minutes of the courtesy call. The Prime Minister and Ambassador Sirro held discussions on various topics of interest. The Ambassador also spoke to the media to inform them of his experience of meting with the president.
The official said that the discussions centered on the bilateral relations between the two nations. They discussed how both the nations can work together to bring meaningful change and development.
Mr Sirro emphasised the need for expanded trade and investment between Tanzania and Mauritius to promote economic development. He highlighted several initiatives that could support this effort, including marketing, tourism, and improved connectivity.
The High Commissioner noted that since both countries are Member States of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), tourists from Europe or other regions could visit both nations, benefiting each other.
Additionally, High Commissioner Sirro suggested that Mauritius could import food products from Tanzania, which has extensive agricultural land for growing fruits and vegetables, instead of sourcing them from Europe.
The High Commissioner of Tanzania Simon Nyakoro Sirro is a Tanzanian diplomat and former police officer. Born in 1963 in Butiama, Mara Region, he has had a notable career in public service. He has served as the Inspector General of Police in Tanzania from 2017 to 2022.
In 2022, Sirro transitioned into diplomacy and was appointed Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe.
