St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Terrance Drew met with the youngsters of St Kitts and Nevis during a Pre-COP Youth Forum on Wednesday. The Royal St. Kitts Hotel served as the venue for the summit which was attended by the youngsters from across the federation.
The discussion which featured at the Pre COP Youth Summit included climate change and sustainable development. The event was hosted as a prerequisite to the upcoming 29th conference of the Parties.
The Prime Minister called on the youngsters to raise their voices against climate change and climate action.
Dr Drew was proud to have the opportunity to interact with the youngsters of the country. The Prime Minster delivered a brief address at the event where he reflected on the importance of raising the voice.
He said that the youngsters can call on the world to make significant change in the thinking of the world. They have the power to convince the world to desist from the activities that are destroying the environment.
He urged the people to be strong advocates and spread awareness regarding the affects of climate action. The Prime Minister has said that the youngsters can do a number of things to spread awareness regarding climate action.
The Prime Minister urged the youngsters to spread the message through painting, art, writing poems and speak on the topics. The Prime Minister said that they want to have the voices of the youngsters be heard.
They should share their views with people of the country, share their views on the internet, create clubs, have speeches and more. The Prime Minister shared that they can support the fight against climate change in various ways.
One of the smallest ways the nation can support the call for climate action includes “Turning off lights when you leave a room.” He said this is a small action which can heave a huge impact on the nation.
The Youth forum was organized by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action & Constituency Empowerment. The representatives from the Ministry and the federal cabinet were also present at the event.
They all heard the views of the country’s youth on the aspect of climate action and climate change. The youngsters pledged to make the most of their capabilities and work towards ensuring climate change is contained.
