Zambia: A 15-year-old girl bas committed suicide after she performed badly during her grade six examination. The victim is a resident of the Chikwanda village in Mpika district, Muchinga Province and commited suicide after she tied a belt to a pole on the roof of her home.
The victim was found in the kitchen of her home in the Chikwanda village and the incident has been confirmed by Muchinga Police Commissioner Dennis Moola. The police officials have shared that the girl committed suicide after learning that she may have failed her examination.
She was unhappy with the fact that she will not be moving to the seventh grade in the Chitulika Primary School in Chief Chikwanda’s area. The officials shared that the students who did not perform well during the examination will not be moving to the next grade.
The decreased was unhappy with the school’s decision, to make the failed students repeat their classes and accordingly commited suicide. The incident allegedly happened on Friday around 17:00 hours.
Before the girl committed suicide the 15 year old confessed the reason for her action. She had also confided in her friend of the same village she informed her fellow that she would kill herself rather than to remain in Grade six.
She was alone at home when it happened as her older sister, who is 20 year old, had left the house for the nearby market.
When the elder sister returned from the market around 18 hours, she found the victim in the kitchen after she had committed suicide. The victim reported the matter at Mpika police station by Brian Sinyangwe 28, who is the brother-in-law to the deceased girl.
The police officers then visited the scene of crime after the report was made and they started the investigation into the matter. The body of the girl has been taken to Mpika hospital mortuary awaiting burial. The family does not suspect any foul play in the matter and will be conducting the burial.
Mpika District Commissioner David Siame has expressed sadness at suicide incident. He said that the youngsters should not to take their lives whenever faced with seemingly difficult times.
