Kenya: Port of Mombasa received a major boost in order to modernise it. The UK High Commissioner to Kenya – Neil Wigan promised to continue supporting on behalf of the UK Government.
Commissioner Wigan reaffirmed the commitment by the United Kingdom to ensure that the Port of Mombasa remains competitive at global level. The Port surpassed 2 million TEUs in container traffic for the first time, marking a milestone aided by the key projects co-funded by the UK in Kenya through the ‘TradeMark Africa’.
Furthermore, in a meeting with the Hugh Commissioner at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) headquarters – Kipevu and the General Manager of Operations at KPA – Dr. Sudi Mwasinago represented the Managing Director away on official duty and credited the United Kingdom’s support for easing congestion and expanding the capacity.
Notably, the key projects by KPA included the roads and yards expansion, green initiatives, installation of eco-hoppers and mobile harbour cranes that have modernized the port operations.
KPA General Manager Mwasinago emphasized that the role of collaborations made in promoting sustainability and regional trade and said that the growth focuses majorly on resilience and addressing future demands while minimizing the environmental impacts.
Considering the meeting, the High Commissioner of KPA was accompanied by the CEO of TradeMark Africa – Mr. Davegh Beer and the Director of Ag. Country – Dr. Hannan Ngugi.
