Zambia: Eastern Province has recently celebrated the a local festival, Nc’wala celebration. During the celebration, the police has recieved reports of petty thefts.
The eastern province Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has shared the reports of the incident with the media. They have claimed that they have received reports of thievery of 24 phones with the estimated value of K87 thousand.
All the thefts allegedly happened during the Nc’wala celebration period. During this period the areas across the various districts of Eastern Province saw significant crowds.
These crowds became a cover for the criminals to execute the theft. The authorities have confirmed that they are considering action on the suspects.
Commanding Officer Mweemba said that of the 24 phones, two of them were Iphones. The estimated value of the apple smart phone was accorded at 14 thousand.

He further disclosed that in order to provide security to those attending the ceremony, the Police Service pitched a tent where people could go for their complaints.
“We had positioned a Kasalanga vehicle which was a holding cell where criminals were packed and driven to the mother station,” he said.
The further details about the theft and its aftermath is still unknown. Meanwhile, the authorities have confirmed that they are looking for the missing mobile devices.
They will also continue their investigation into the incident. The authorities have urged the people of the country to remain cautious in the event that the celebrations turn out to be breeding grounds for such events.
