Zambia: Lusangazi District of Zambia will be issuing National Registration Cards (NRCs) to over 19,000 citizens for identification purposes. The various districts across Zambia are currently in the process of conducting a mobile registration exercise.
Under this exercise the people of the country can get their national registration cards which are unique identification proofs for the people of Zambia. The registration exercise commenced on April 18, 2025 and will be running till July 4, 2025.
The idea is that all the people of the country should have a document that identifies them as the citizens of the country. Their address in the remote areas will also be a prominent feature in the NRCs.
The government officials have urged the people of the various communities to come forward and register themselves for the NRCs. The initiative is aimed at improving access to national identity documentation.
The administration believes that the cards will be especially beneficial for residents in remote areas.
Lusangazi District Commissioner Margaret Zulu has shared the details of the registration exercise. He said that the exercise is important for the community. He confirmed that two mobile teams have been deployed to the communities. They have been given a daily registration target of 220 persons.
At the end of every day, the registration team has to meet the target target of 440 registrations. District Commissioner Zulu has asked the people of the district to participate in large numbers.
Further, she asked the people to follow the laid-down registration procedures.
The administration is delighted with the number of people who have come forward for the registration process. The district commissioner said that she was delighted with the response from the Chief Nyampande’s area.
She said the chief’s area is one of the most remote parts of the district which makes the response commendable.
John Mwanza, a resident of the district welcomed the government’s initiative. He said that the people of the Nyampande area face several issues due to the distance to the nearest NRC issuing office in Ukwimi. The office is located over 120 kilometers away from Senya in Chief Nyampande’s chiefdom.
As such the adminstration’s initiative has made the exercise more accessible for the people of the area.
