Zambia: The Japanese government has donated Infectious Diseases Testing and Dental Equipment to Zambia Tuberculosis and Leprosy Trust (ZATULET). The donation was made in Lusaka and included equipment worth approximately US$70,000
The handover ceremony for the equipment was hosted at ZATULET Clinic in Lusaka. Japanese Ambassador to Zambia, Takeuchi Kazuyuki, delivered a brief address at the handover event.
He said the donated items include a biochemical Auto-analyser, other diagnostic tools for infectious diseases screening, dental chairs and instruments to strengthen oral health services. The nation has been working dedicatedly to improve healthcare in all the communities of Zambia.
The donation from Japan will help the Zambia Ministry of Health in developing the oral healthcare of the nation. The officials have shared that it is important for the people to be aware about oral Health.
Furthermore, the Japanese Ambassador to Zambia, Takeuchi Kazuyuki was confident that the donated equipment will significantly enhance the capacity of the clinic. The doctors will be able to provide accurate and timely diagnosis.
The donated items will be particularly for helpful for the patients of tuberculosis and HIV and AIDS
“Today, on behalf of the Government of Japan, I am honoured to officially hand over vital medical equipment to the NGO, Zambia Tuberculosis and Leprosy Trust or ZATULET to support its infectious disease testing in Lusaka.
The ceremony was attended by Ministry of Health National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Manager, Angel Mubanga. He was attending on behalf of Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Donor Coordination, George Sinyangwe. He took the stage to highlight the TB statistics in the country.
Dr Mubanga was disappointed to note that even though TB is preventable and treatable, 15 people still die of TB every week in Zambia.
He disclosed that the number of infections per 100 thousand infections reduced from 391 in 2015 to 283 cases in 2025.
And Zambia Tuberculosis and Leprosy Trust (ZATULET) Chief Executive Officer, Charity Habeenzu, thanked the donors for the generous gesture saying it will provide excellent diagnostic and dental equipment that will facilitate quick patients’ management in real time.
