Malawi: Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille has expressed his delight on the the opening of the Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Interpretation Centre. The center is opening at the Golden Gate Highlands National Park.
The opening for the event was hosted on 22 June 2025. Minister De Lille attended the event along with Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dr. Dion George.
Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae and MECs Ketso Makume and Mamiki Maboya were also present at the event.
Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Interpretation Centre highlights the ancient history of the continent as dinosaur embryos were discovered in Africa. Minister De Lille said the centre provides opportunities for the Free State province.
“This centre is a gateway into our continent’s past and a dynamic future. This is heritage and identity of the Basotho people and at least 50% of jobs created here must be for locals. This is part of government’s efforts to diversify tourism in the country.
The Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Interpretation Centre will help in developing the community and the province. The Minister believes that the project will make the district more of a tourist spot.
Premier Letsoha-Mathae said the centrality of the Free State province, gives it advantage to attract tourists.
“Our province boasts great tourism attractions such as the Golden Gate, that provide us with endless opportunities to create jobs for our people. MEC Ketso Makume’s tagline about tourism in the Free State is: “Free State is not the province to go through; it is a province to go to!” Premier Letsoha Mathae expressed her agreement with the Minister of Tourism
She said tourism must be used to create employment. “Ours is a province of alluring beauty… The centrality of the Free State province makes it an ideal tourism destination.
From the imposing mountains in Thabo Mofutsanyana district municipality, the open, lush and inviting grasslands of Xhariep, and the historic Fezile Dabi district, the province has an abundance of magical places that simply ought to be brought to a bigger audience so that they reach their full potential,” she said.
