South Africa: Young soccer player – Camden Schaper aged 13 has become the most expensive player of his age. Chelsea beat Manchester City to sign him for a transfer fee of £700,000. He made 45 goals and 65 assists for BlackBurn Rovers’ U-14 team last season.
Reportedly, Jody Schaper confirmed that London giants Chelsea FC have secured the services of his prodigiously talented son, Camden. He confirmed that Chelsea have won the race to sign Camden.
Earlier, the Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City were in a fierce battle to sign the teenage football sensation valued at £700,000 (R16.9m) by making him the most expensive 13-year-old footballer in the world. Watching Canden’s development over these years, Jody Schaper expressed his pride and excitement.
He said that talent and hard work always lead to success. Camden is a humble and hardworking child. According to senior Schaper it is an honour to watch his son grow into the player and person he is becoming. Every team he has played for has improved because of him. High performers elevate those around them by up to 15% and they have seen that first-hand.
Considering his selection, Camden said that he was thrilled to join the six-time Premier League Champions. The young player expressed that he is very excited and he is focused on his football.
He is ready to work hard, to be challenged, and to learn as much as he can in an elite environment. Camden’s long-term goals include becoming the best age-group footballer in the country and one day playing for Chelsea’s first team.
According to him, it was all about breaking into the first team now. He said that it would be amazing if he can manage to do that at a young age. He expressed pride in his South African roots and hopes to shine a spotlight on youth football in the country.
He further stated that the world must see the talent South Africa has. Being at SSU was so important in this journey as it made him the player he is today. He explained that if one works hard and believes that he can achieve anything, then anything is possible.
When asked whether his son will eventually represent South Africa or England at international level, Jody Schapen said that it is an interesting question. It will be completely Canden’s choice but right now, as a youth player, it matters who comes calling first. And for this, they will wait and see.
