Dominica: Ministry of Education hosted a press conference on Monday, August 25, 2025. In conference the Local Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Registrar – Magalie Celestine has demanded more compatible tech devices and better internet service at schools, of the Nature Isle.
This technical advancement in schools of Dominica will facilitate teaching and learning process throughout the year and assessment. Celestine urged this while presenting an overview of the administration of the 2025 exams, held at the Public Service Union (PSU) Building.
Reportedly, 2025 exams were administered across 17 centres around the island. The CSEC exams were conducted in six weeks, and the CAPE was concluded in seven-week period. While CCSLC exam was conducted within one week, and CVQ was taken in one day.
Magalie Celestine further stated that due to growing shortage of suitable devices, poor internet connectivity at the centres were really a problem. During that time, it was recorded that out of 17 centres, only 11 were equipped or e-testing of all CSEC, CAPE and CCSLC multiple choice papers.
She explained further that the students at different institutions had varied experiences with online testing, and stated that the Convent High School, St. Mary’s Academy, and the Academic School of Learning is continuously leading the way for e-testing in Dominica.
Also, students at the Goodwill Secondary School, currently housed at the Newtown Primary School and the students of the Pierre Charles Secondary School had the best experiences online, as compared to other schools.
Celestine noted that for these exams, the Education Trust Fund has contributed $40,000 and more to 162 candidates across secondary schools for registration of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination this year.
At the recently held press conference in PSU, she presented the CXC results for Dominica. The results also revealed performances on the Caribbean Certification of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC), Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE), and Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ).
Registrar Celestine thanked the Education Trust Fund staff publicly for absorbing the cost of 50% of the CSEC registration fees for 162 candidates at all 14 secondary schools, considering the total sum $42,860.
CXC Registrar acknowledged that Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training, and National Excellence is grateful for the yearly contribution by Education Trust Fund.
Celestine marked that without the financial support of ETF, the results would not be as interesting. She further urged the members of the private and public sectors at large to make a greater contribution towards the projects of the Education Trust Fund.
