Dominica: The Government of Dominica has officially launched the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Awareness Campaign, last month. It was introduced in association with the OECS Commission, CARICOM IMPACS and the World Bank Group.
This initiative forms a part of continued efforts of Dominica, considered under the Caribbean Digital Transformation Project to strengthen resilience, promote safe online practices and protect citizens, businesses and institutions from cyber threats.
Reportedly, the launch event was held at the St. Alphonsus Parish Hall that brought together the government officials, law enforcement agencies, educators, private sector representatives and civil society stakeholders.
The tech campaign emphasises the importance of digital safety, cybercrime prevention and responsible use of technology, with a special focus on raising awareness among youth, businesses and vulnerable groups.
Considering this initiative, Minister for Public Works, Public Utilities and the Digital Economy – Fidel Grant highlighted the growing risks that were posed by the cybercrime and the need for a united national response. He explained that cybersecurity is a matter of technology as well as of awareness, education and personal responsibility.
The cyber campaign will feature a series of workshops, school outreach activities, public service announcements, social media engagement, and community forums. These all features aim at empowering the people of Dominica with the knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world securely.
This Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Awareness Campaign is designed specially to enhance public awareness on the importance of cybersecurity in everyday life. Also, it will educate the citizens, businesses and government institutions on how to safeguard personal and organisational data from cyber threats.
Furthermore, the campaign will strengthen national resilience against the growing risks considering the online frauds, identity theft, ransomware and other forms of cybercrime.
The awareness campaign promotes digital literacy and responsible online behaviour, particularly among young people, entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups.
Besides this, Dominica is advancing its digital economy and is expanding its online services. The objective of Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Awareness Campaign is to ensure that citizens are better equipped to safeguard their personal data, protect their online identities and contribute to a safer digital environment for all.
The Public Works, Public Utilities and Digital Economy Ministry reaffirmed its commitment with the launch of this campaign to ensure the secure and sustainable digital future of Dominica.
Notably, the Government of Dominica is encouraging the public to actively engage with the activities included in the campaign, such as the community outreach, media programs, school initiatives and the distribution of educational materials nationwide.
