Cape Town: The Light-Emitting Diode (LED) upgradation and replacement project by the City of Cape Town is officially introduced now. It is a part of an ongoing investment in the electricity infrastructure.
Reportedly, this project ensures that the communities receive benefit from reliable services that are both modern and cost effective. The ongoing maintenance of electricity infrastructure plays a vital role in creating safer communities and promises to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Energy – Alderman Xanthea Limberg said that they have recently visited to Kraaifontein to oversee the important LED streetlight upgrades in the area as well as the critical maintenance to infrastructure.
Installation of the new LED lights is a 25-year programme launched across the Cape Town. This project targets main arterial roads in the initial phase and broader community streets in outer years.
Capetonians will receive significant benefits of these LED lights, as they produce clearer light compared to the traditional bulbs, and will enhance the visibility at night.
Notably, LEDs are much more energy efficient and have a longer lifespan. It requires less maintenance and creates less disruptions for the residents. The streetlight maintenance programme also plays a vital role in contributing safer neighbourhoods. These LEDs will lit-up the streets and will help in improving road safety for motorists and pedestrians.
Limberg stated that the City of Cape Town is committed to invest in all communities and upgrades, which focuses on improving and modernising the streetlight infrastructure. This ensures that they maintain the reliable and high-quality electricity services.
She said that this remind residents that vandalism of streetlights diverts funding from critical infrastructure expansion projects and also deprives communities of these essential services.
According to Alderman Xanthea Limberg, city residents are encouraged to report the damaged or faulty streetlights via the service channels of the Cape Town. This will provide the team a quick access, to do the repairment. She marked that it is a great initiative to carry out the streetlight maintenance in Kraaifontein.
