Dominica: Athlete Thea LaFond Gadson grabs Silver Medal at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, held in Tokyo, Japan. This achievement marks another international recognition to her name and making the nation proud once again.
She set the record of 14.89 metres distance, as her best jump of the season. The Olympian Gold-Medallist, soared high, in a highly competitive field and earned her spot in the women’s triple jump final at the championship in Tokyo.
Considering the achievement, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit praised that athlete and said that Dominica’s Thea Lafond Gadson has captured Silver at the World Athletics Championships in Japan. He added that she jumped a season’s best 14.89 meters. Congratulations to Thea.
Dominica Amateur Athletic Association (DAAA) appreciated her win and said that what a proud moment for Dominica, showing the world the power of determination and excellence.
GIS Dominica, recognised her and said that Thea Lafond Gadson has made history once again, capturing Silver at the World Athletics Championships in Japan with a season’s best leap of 14.89 meters in the triple Jump.
They added that this incredible achievement is not just her victory, it is proud moment for Dominica as the flag soars high among the world’s best. Dominica congratulated athlete Thea for inspiring an entire nation and showing the strength, talent and spirit of Dominica.
Earlier she amazed all by her performance in 2024 Paris Olympics. There she won gold in the triple jump and claimed her first-ever Olympic medal for Dominica. She was also recognised as triple jump champion in the 2024 World Indoor Games.
At 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Thea LaFond Gadson set a new record of 15.02 metres in jump. To honour her for conquering this, the Government of Dominica appointed her as a national sports ambassador and granted $400,000.
Lafond was also recognised with a diplomatic passport and also with a 7, 459 per sq. ft. Parcel of land in the village of Warner, Saint Paul Parish. A track and field facility will also be built with her name to honour the athlete. She was also rewarded with the Dominica Award of Honour during the Independence Day Celebrations in early Nov 2024.
