Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit calls on citizens to buy local produced things to support agriculture. He highlighted the success of small businesses in agriculture sector on Market Day. The ceremony was officially held at the Roseau Market on Saturday, Nov 01, 2025.
PM Skerrit highlighted that when they say, to buy local things, they are referring to Dominica, and all the residents can call themselves patriots, as they display patriotism by supporting the local things.
He emphasised that it cannot just be a phrase or word it must be visible in deeds and actions. He said that farmers need that when people go to the supermarket, they should demand to have local products.
Prime Minister Skerrit urged to support farmers and fishes which will strengthen agriculture resilience. According to him, Dominicans should continue to cherish the markets, to support the vendors and to celebrate the farmers and fishermen of the nation. He stated that together they can ensure that Dominica remains a nation that feeds itself, sustains itself and thrives through the collective effort of its people.
Meanwhile, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy – Jullan Defoe reminded farmers that foods for local consumption must adhere to sound the agricultural practices.
The Foreign Affairs Minister Jullan Defoe affirmed that they must continue to promote the understanding among the food handlers, farmers, processors and manufacturing by the manufacturers.
Notably, the foods they offer for sale must be fit for humanly consumption by following good agricultural practices and manufacturing practices. They should firmly believe to achieve the goal of the nation building, as they need to have healthy minds in healthy bodies.
However, the government of Dominica has worked continuously in strengthening the health status of the population that is unprecedented. It is a great initiative taken by the government of Dominica to enhance its agriculture sector and help their farmers and fishermen of the nation.
