Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit extended Christmas and New Year greetings to the citizens and reflected upon the values of love, compassion and unity. He acknowledged the act of service for the neighbours and urged to extend kindness to those in need and find joy in the simple blessings which surround them.
He extended Christmas and New Year greetings on behalf of his family and the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, wishing citizens a holy, peaceful and joyous Christmas and a New Year filled with health, hope and prosperity. He also offered prayers for God’s continued blessings upon the people and the nation.
PM Skerrit highlighted that it is a time when families gather, communities reconnect and they are encouraged to look beyond themselves and care for the vulnerable, the elderly, the sick and those who may be facing hardship. He said, “these values have always defined us as a people, and they continue to guide us as a nation.”
Reflects Achievements of Year 2025
Prime Minister Skerrit further expressed that the year 2025 as a year of steady progress despite of tackling global challenges, while citing achievements. He said, “As we reflect on the year now drawing to a close, we do so with a deep sense of gratitude and pride. 2025 was a year of determined effort, steady progress and meaningful achievements.”
“In a world still grappling with economic uncertainty, climate shocks and geopolitical instability, Dominica has continued to move forward with confidence and purpose,” stated PM Skerrit.
Dr. Skerrit earmarked that this year Dominica took decisive action to protect working families and restore dignity to labour through the implementation of a revised minimum wage. According to him, this policy reflects the firm belief that no one, who works hard should struggle to survive. He also mentioned about reducing the cost of living by removing VAT and customs duties on essential food items by putting real relief into the pockets of households across the country.
In 2025, Dominica continued to make its investment in different sector such as housing, healthcare, education, infrastructure and economic growth as part of a comprehensive vision to build a resilient, inclusive and a Dominica full of opportunities.
New Constructions in Progress
Prime Minister Skerrit further stated that across the island, new homes are being constructed, roads and bridges have been upgraded, schools modernised and health services were strengthened. He added that these are tangible improvements which touch lives and build confidence in the future.
He underscored the progress on the International Airport Project as transformational for economic growth and employment, while reaffirming the commitment to environmental stewardship.
This investment will transform the future of Dominica which will open new doors for tourism, trade, education, investment and global connectivity. The project is progressing steadily and responsibly by providing employment for hundreds of people and laid the foundation for long-term economic growth and opportunity for the young people.
Development and Sustainability Moves Parallel
PM Skerrit reaffirmed the commitment of Government in its greetings to pursue the development responsibly and sustainably by ensuring that the national progress goes hand-in-hand with environmental protection. He said that the development and environmental stewardship are complementary priorities.
He expressed gratitude to farmers, fisherfolk, public servants, healthcare workers, educators, police officers, entrepreneurs and private-sector partners for their dedication and resilience. He described them as the backbone of the nation.
Dr. Skerrit also acknowledged the vital role of the Dominican diaspora, noting their continued support and investment. Special appreciation was extended to young people, with assurances of ongoing government efforts to create opportunities through education, skills training, entrepreneurship and meaningful employment at home.
Entering Into 2026 With Renewed Faith
Prime Minister of Dominica said that as they move ahead to the year 2026, they expect to receive more optimism and work with unity by resolving prior issues already affecting the nation.
He assured that the coming year ‘2026’ will bring continued investments, with further reforms and renewed focus on improving the quality of life for all Dominicans. He accepted that there will be challenges but they will face them together, with unity, being resilient and confident in their shared destiny.
PM Skerrit extended his desire to let Dominica enter the New Year with renewed faith in themselves and in the country. He wishes to strengthen the bonds that unite them, extend kindness where it is needed and recommit themselves to build a Dominica that leaves no one behind.
