Cape Town: Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis joined Mfuleni residents for open air celebration as the community commemorates 50th Anniversary on Jan 31, 2026. It was a great opportunity for families and residents of the City of Cape Town to come out in their numbers to enjoy local performing artists and fun activities.
Lewis said, Siyayithanda iMfuleni, it was a joy to celebrate 50 years of this special community together with residents. Mayor of Cape Town explained that Mfuleni means river, and he is really proud of the river of infrastructure investment, that they are pouring into this community right now.
According to Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, the future here is only getting brighter with a brand-new sports field among various sporting facility that upgrades in the broader area. Also considering an upgraded fire station, over 2000 houses and serviced sites in the pipeline across four housing projects and major public transport interchange upgrades to the tune of R100 million over three years.
While talking about that, Mayor added that the City of Cape Town is helping SAPS – the South African Police Services, in fighting crime by providing them with a local policing headquarters in a city building and through the dedicated LEAP officer deployment to the area.
Furthermore, Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis unveiled the 50th anniversary mural of the City of Cape Town at Mfuleni Hall together with the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Francine Higham, along with the local councillors and community representatives.
The event also included their visit to the new Mfuleni sports field which is a part of various city infrastructure investments in the particular area. It is a tradition that Mfuleni families and residents come out and gather together in their numbers to enjoy local performing artists and fun activities at the open-air celebration on Jan 31, 2026 organised especially by the City of Cape Town.
