Cape Town: Vuyani Public Transport Interchange moves closer to its completion. Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Mobility of the City of Cape Town – Councillor Rob Quintas with senior officials from the Transport Infrastructure Implementation team, recently visited the new Vuyani Public Transport Interchange (PTI), which is currently under construction.
Once complete, it is said that the PTI will provide dedicated facilities for minibus-taxi operators and will serve the commuters travelling to Mfuleni, Eerste River, Blackheath, Kuils River and Lwandle, improving connectivity and convenience for the community.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Mobility – Councillor Rob Quintas said that the construction of the Vuyani Public Transport Interchange (PTI) is an important investment in improved infrastructure and safer, yet more accessible public transport for the community.
Considering this, Quintas stated that he is very pleased with the progress and quality of work to date. Once completed, the facility will include:
- covered waiting areas,
- safe loading lanes,
- improved lighting,
- ablution facilities, and
- an administration building
Commuters will soon be able to access minibus taxis, such as the MyCiTi Bus Service and Golden Arrow buses from one convenient location. This is another step towards keeping Cape Town moving safely and efficiently.
The Vuyani PTI is located at the corner of Spine Road and Jeff Masemola Road in Khayelitsha, which is adjacent to the existing Vuyani meat market. A MyCiTi stop is planned just 200 metres away, at Spine Road and Govan Mbeki Road, that is putting multiple transport options within easy walking distance.
Cllr Rob Quintas said that this new PTI forms part of the broader plans to roll out the next phase of the MyCiTi service to the metro south-east, strengthening connections between Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha, and key destinations, such as Claremont and Wynberg. The priority remains clear: which is to improve communities’ access to safe, dignified and affordable public transport. This investment will bring them closer to that goal.
