St. Kitts and Nevis has welcomed the team of healthcare professionals from the U.S. Air Force, as a part of the Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team (LAMAT) 2026 Mission. It is a humanitarian medical partnership dedicated to deliver specialised care and strengthen health systems across the region.
This is a collaborative initiative which underscores the strong partnership between the St. Kitts and Nevis and United States (US). It aims at strengthening healthcare delivery and building medical capacity across the Federation.
Considering this major initiative, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew shared the glimpses from the meeting on his official social media handle. He stated that St. Kitts and Nevis has proudly launched #LAMAT. He said, “the Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team mission, is a humanitarian medical partnership dedicated to delivering specialised care and strengthening health systems across our region.”
According to PM Drew, this is a significant initiative which is supported by the United States Air Force under the U.S. Southern Command. Their professionalism, medical expertise, and spirit of service continue to make a tangible difference in the lives of the people.
He also extended gratitude to the Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their steadfast friendship, generous support and enduring partnership with St. Kitts and Nevis.
LAMAT is the cooperation in action. It reflects what can be achieved when trusted partners unite around a shared commitment to health, dignity and human well-being. Drew thanked the medical teams, coordinators and volunteers for their excellent work, as they continue to serve for humanity. He assured that together they are building a healthier and stronger nation.
During their mission, the LAMAT team will provide specialised medical services spanning a wide range of disciplines, including Emergency Medicine, Neonatal and Pediatric Care, Intensive and Critical Care, dentistry, Pharmacy, Audiology, Physiotherapy, Medical Technology, Family Medicine, Radiology, Diabetes Education and Nutrition.
Therefore, their presence reflects a shared commitment to advance the quality of care and ensuring healthier communities for all citizens and residents.
As per the post shared by the Air Forces Southern, for the next two weeks, 60 U.S. medical and support professionals will integrate directly into hospitals, clinics and community outreach events across St. Kitts and Nevis. They will strengthen collaboration and advance a safer, more prepared Western Hemisphere.
