Cape Town: The Arts and Culture Development Branch partnered with the Cape Town Opera Vocal Ensemble to bring a free concert series. It was showcased in Langa, Bothasig and Fish Hoek.
These concerts are part of the “Opera in Your Neighbourhood” programme and were designed to make high-quality cultural experiences more accessible to everyone, regardless of any age or location. The 18-member ensemble, led by a chorus master, delighted audiences with a diverse program featuring:
- Musical Theatre
- African Traditional Music
- Classical Pieces
- Gospel
The Community, Services and Health Directorate was also a major partner of it. The concert series took opera beyond the traditional theatre spaces and into local neighbourhoods. This made high-quality cultural experiences accessible to residents of all ages. By bringing performances directly to community venues, the initiative aimed to broaden access to the arts and lessen barriers related to geography and affordability.
The Cape Town Opera Vocal Ensemble consisted of 18 members and a chorus master who entertained concertgoers with a diverse repertoire including various musical performances.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Francine Higham stated that the response received from residents has been very inspiring. By partnering with organisations like Cape Town Opera and Cape Town City Ballet, they are bringing high-quality performances into neighbourhoods. So that more people can enjoy the arts close to their home. They thanked the performers and every resident who came out to support these concerts.
