Cape Town: Important updates have been released for the residents of Muizenberg, as the St. James Spring collection point is currently closed due to lack of water supply. The Newlands Spring collection point is still open and available for use.
Reportedly, the residents are advised that the St. James Spring collection point at 4 Main Road, Muizenberg is closed until further notice. The Newlands Spring remains open as an alternative water source.
The officials have apologised for any inconvenience caused and appreciated that their understanding, as they investigate the reason for the lack of supply.
Following a routine on-site investigation, it was confirmed that there is currently no water flowing from the St. James Spring source. As a result, the collection point has been temporarily closed until further notice.
During this time, the City of Cape Town will do necessary investigations to determine the reason for the lack of supply. While also carrying out the infrastructure maintenance and cleaning at the site.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Water and Sanitation – Councillor Zahid Badroodien stated that he appreciated residents for their initiative to use alternative water sources for irrigation and other non-potable applications by collecting water at the St. James Spring collection point.
Badroodien added that, as the return of water to the St. James Spring is not guaranteed at this stage. He encouraged the residents to make use of the Newlands Spring collection point during this period.
The Newlands Spring remains open as an alternative water source. The Newlands Spring collection point is located on the northern side of the Newlands Swimming Pool, along Main Road in Newlands. It is open to the public for all seven days a week, from 05:00 a.m. to 09:00 p.m.
Visitors need to remember that the spring water is not treated. Whereas it is collected and used at the residents on their own risk.
