St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew visited to Needsmust area with Water Engineer – Cromwell Williams and updated on active measures that are being taken to strengthen water supply to St. Peter’s and surrounding communities amid the ongoing dry season.
Reportedly, a new water pipeline has been installed to bring additional water from the Basseterre Valley pumping system to St. Peter’s. The Crews are now completing stabilisation work on the pipeline before it will become fully operational in the coming days.
Water Engineer Williams highlighted the significant delay in rainfall being experienced across the Federation since April and recorded 1.5 inches of rain as compared to the normal average of approximately four inches.
Prime Minister Drew emphasised that the government has been proactively investing in water infrastructure and climate resilience with nearly EC$100 million invested in the water sector to stay prepared for the challenges linked to climate change and prolonged dry periods.
Residents of St. Kitts and Nevis are further encouraged to continue conserving water as the government works to improve reliability and accessibility across the affected communities.
PM Drew shared glimpses from his visiting moment and stated that their work continues to ensure that the people of St. Kitts and Nevis have reliable access to one of the life’s most essential resources known as ‘water’.
He mentioned about his visit to the Needsmust area to see firsthand progress being made on a new water line. As it will bring additional supply from the Basseterre Valley pumping system to St. Peter’s and surrounding communities.
The Prime Minister confirmed that the work is advancing steadily and once final stabilisation is completed, the line will become operational in the coming days. As they continue this important work, he encouraged everyone to do their part by conserving water. Together, they will build a stronger and more resilient St. Kitts and Nevis.
