Kenya: The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Creative Economy, Ababu Namwamba, is currently in Miramas City, France. The official travelled to Kenya for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designating the City as the official Team Kenya Pre-Olympics Paris Camp.
The Kenya Ministry of Sports is dedicated to making their athletes ready for the upcoming 2024 Olympics being hosted in Paris. The preparation for the international sporting event is being hosted starting from 26 July to 11 August is at its peak.
The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ababu Namwamba, announced in a previous gathering of sports stakeholders that the Paris Olympics are a top priority for his ministry. The trip to France also reaffirms the ministry’s commitment to the development of Kenya’s sports sector.
The MOU was signed between the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K), Miramas City, and the Miramas Metropole Club. The agreement cements the state-of-the-art Miramas Metropole Facilities as official training grounds for Team Kenya.
The facility boasts Indoor Track, Football and Rugby pitches, Tennis courts, Outdoor Warm-Up track, and Boxing and Taekwondo gyms.
The Cabinet Secretary is accompanied by NOC-K team led by president Dr Paul Tergat to his trip to France. The delegation lauds the MoU as a milestone in Kenya’s sporting history. The ministry believes that the MoU paves the way for robust preparations for Team Kenya ahead of the Olympics slated for July this year.
This is part of the Ministry’s deliberate, intentional and structured engagement to guarantee adequate preparations for #TeamKenya, with a goal of boosting their performance in the global premier sporting arena.
Also present were Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala, 800m Commonwealth Bronze medalist Wiseman Were, National 200m Champion Boniface Mweresa, sprinter Mark Otieno as well as 800m world record holder David Rudisha among others.
