Mauritius: Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany, hosted a one-day training programme to combat alcohol consumption at the workplace. The event was hosted on Tuesday by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal.
The event served as an opportunity to highlight and address the issue of alcohol consumption in the world place. The authorities involved in the one-day training programme aim to carve out ways to combat the situation.
The training workshop was hosted for the benefit of Human Resource (HR) professionals across various Ministries. Through the initiative, the government wants to train the officials to identify alcohol-related issues among employees and effectively address them.
Several government officials supported the event. According to the Minister of Public Utilities, the government has already trained over 2,500 Human resource officers. The training focussed particularly on alcohol abuse in the workplace at the Mauritius Civil Service College.
The Minister invited all the ministries of the country to encourage the members of their staff to participate in the workshop. The Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany delivered a brief address at the workshop.
In his remarks, he spoke about the importance of the initiative and the negative impacts of alcoholism among the people. The Minister assured that the government is working hard to safeguard employees and preserve their productivity.
He also noted that he is dedicated to providing the people of Mauritius with a safer, healthier, and more productive work environment. Meanwhile, Minister of Health and Wellness, Kailash Kumar Singh Jagutpal was happy with the conception of the workshop.
He was sure that the initiative would help attendants in overcoming alcohol abuse. At the same time, he also acknowledged the adverse effects of the practice on health, family life, and work performance.
At the event, he also talked about the establishment of an Alcohol Rehabilitation Ward at Mahebourg Hospital. The aim of the hospital is to help treat individuals with severe alcohol problems.
